ENGEL & VÖLKERS 4

Team Spirit, Dynamism and the Right Strategy

Tucked quietly into a clean white office building on Pacific Coast Highway is the Corona del Mar shop of Engel & Völkers. The international real estate agency with 55 North American shops has distinguished itself with its “white glove style of service.”  Founded in 1977 in Hamburg, Germany, E&V began as a specialty boutique agency providing high-end real estate services to wealthy European investors in search of assistance from experts who were highly professional and maybe even, more importantly, discreet. They quickly earned a reputation for unparalleled service and strength in the market place.

E&V opened its first international shop in Majorca, Spain, in 1990. Today, 25 years later, the company has grown into a massive global network of more than 5,800 real estate advisors in 39 countries that spans six continents. They now have offices in the major international real estate markets, including Dubai, Paris, Rome, Hong Kong, London and New York City.

As they grew they defined and perfected their “white glove style of service.” Not only did they invest in maintaining the same overall look and feel of their successful shops in Germany, but they also developed technology, tools and systems that allowed them to expand without compromising their quality and the highest levels of service. Their successes led to not only a greater demand but also a brand that continues to gain in reputation and recognition.

E&V entered the U.S. and North American market in 2006. Anthony Hitt was selected to lead the effort of expanding the brand in the U.S., as well as ensuring consistency in the service and quality being experienced worldwide. Hitt assembled the leaders in the industry to help establish Engel & Völkers’ North American presence. With this leadership team and a talented staff of experts in market development, technology, marketing, communications and brokerage services in place, E&V has grown into a force in the North American real estate marketplace.

The Visionary

Christian Völkers, founder and CEO of the firm, hosted the annual Engle & Völkers Polo Cup on July 31-August 1 at his “Son Coll” estate in Mallorca, Spain, from which guests enjoyed the spectacular surroundings, including overlooking vineyards and the Mediterranean. More than 500 employees from the global network attended the event in which the company had a lot to celebrate. The firm achieved in the first half-year of 2015 overall commission revenues of €181.7 ($202.7) million. This represents a 36.5 percent increase in turnover in comparison with the same period the previous year. It also reflects the group’s continuation on its course of growth.

“Our strong expansion strategy within and outside of Europe is having a positive impact,” says Sven Odia, Co-CEO of Engel & Völkers AG.

This substantial growth can be attributed to the healthy state of the real estate economy and the strong presence of the brand–particularly in Germany, Spain, Italy, North America and Switzerland.

Christian Völkers is a passionate polo player. He, together with his friend Thomas Winter, Germany’s top polo player, and the E&V Licensee Partner Rackham Schröder, decided to found a professional polo school. The idea was born at the Engel & Völkers Polo Cup on Majorca. Land Rover was quickly won over as a strong partner. At the Polo School, beginners have a chance to discover the fascinating sport, while advanced players can perfect their game and improve their handicap.

Christian Völkers’ vision is the company’s vision. The company recognizes its duty to act in a socially responsible way.

As E&V has stated, “We cannot fail to see the hardship and adversity in our world, and it is our moral duty to provide help where it is most needed.”

For this reason, in October 2008, a primary school project in Togo, West Africa, was actively supported, and the company aimed to finance its construction. Today, a second building has been erected and officially opened in November, 2014. The school has room for a total of 600 students. The E&V Charity makes a contribution to the sustainable development of the project and covers all running costs for the school operation.

The Local Engel & Völkers Advisor Team

Santaniello Affiliates acts as the Engel & Völkers advisor for the area of Newport Beach, Newport Coast and Corona del Mar. Karen and Bryce Santaniello, a mother/son combination of experience, marketing and technology represent the remarkable brand locally in Corona del Mar. Karen’s 20+ years of experience in real estate and market development and Bryce’s technology and communications background, and, most recently, construction development experience, create a formidable addition to the Engel & Völkers local shop. Besides providing traditional residential services, they also offer commercial real estate services and brokerage of luxury yachts and jets. Their portfolio includes hundreds of international listings with impressive locations throughout the world. They currently have listings locally, as well as in exotic destinations, such as Los Cabos, Mexico; Costa Rica, Cannes, France or Rhodes in Greece. There is no other real estate team in Newport Beach with a global reach of the size of E&V.  Furthermore, they bring a new competitive advantage; they have the ability of uploading properties in real time to a platform that can be seen in six different continents. This multiplies the possibilities of generating transactions (sell/buy) exponentially, representing an extremely relevant competitive advantage to be considered by any investor.

Furthermore, Santaniello Affiliates has access to Engle & Völker’s aviation charter. From a selection of around 4,000 aircraft, ranging from small propellers to large super jets, Santaniello Affiliates can guide you and help you to identify the best options and opportunities, i.e. when chartering is no longer economically efficient because the annual flying hours are over 150. A rule of thumb tells us that shared ownership or just ownership is the way to go. At this point in time, the team can be extremely valuable at providing great assistance. They can help you to analyze opportunities for aircraft investment, aircraft financing (including operating leases) and aircraft operating-cost budgets and calculations.

Likewise, Santaniello Affiliates can help you explore the world of yachting. The team works closely with the client and with the support of a global database, and targeted marketing measures can help you achieve your goals.

Santaniello Affiliates shares the same values of the brand that they represent, so a portion of their commissions goes toward helping fund handicapped athletes through the E&V Special Olympics campaign.

E&V North America is a proud partner of Special Olympics through its campaign, Play Unified. The campaign was launched to inspire and mobilize youth around the world to connect with people with intellectual disabilities and create more inclusive communities, leading to a more respectful world for everyone.
