This is a special summer–the summer of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games! Our cover of beach volleyball’s three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings reflects that. Having won three Olympic gold medals with partner Misty May-Trainor, she is competing in her fourth Olympics with 2012 Olympic silver medalist April Ross, in hopes of winning a fourth gold medal and setting a record as the most decorated beach athlete (male or female) in the sport. This lady isn’t even thinking about a silver or bronze! You will enjoy our story about the recent Association of Volleyball Professionals Tournament, hosted in Huntington Beach, where Jennings/Ross won and moved on to qualify for the Rio Games.

Also of note this month is the centennial celebration of America’s National Park Service, signed into being on August 25, 1916. What’s not to love about this country’s amazing natural and historic parks, and our story showcases 10 of them. Additionally, you’ll want to know that the NPS is waiving admissions for 16 days to 127 parks, including Yellowstone and Joshua Tree, so, schedule your travel plans!

You will love reading about Orange County millionaire businesswoman Tina Aldatz, who, through tremendous odds growing up, found success in creating Foot Petals designer foot pads that put her on Forbes Magazine’s “Entrepreneur to Watch” list and allowed her to sell her company after 10 years for $14 million. Now, she’s on to another venture called Savvy Travelers, a lifestyle, health and wellness business, all the while sharing her success story at shelters, universities and women’s business groups to inspire others to do the same. Her book, From Stilettos to the Stock Exchange, is an inspiration!

Summer always brings us to the beach. Our ladies fashion feature on swimsuits, beach hats, sunglasses and to-die-for jewelry will get you in the mood. And, our article featuring recipes for a healthy, gluten-free picnic will make your mouth water. Don’t miss our Parting Thoughts column where writer Deirdre Michalski shares her spot-on summer barbecuing tips and also tells us about restaurants in the area who are serving some top-rate BBQ this summer. Finally, our Hot Spot restaurant review for Fly N Fish Oyster Bar & Grill on the Newport Beach boardwalk will have you yearning for shellfish and other ocean fare.

Whatever your choices this summer, whether picnicking, barbecuing or beach going, enjoy! We are in the perfect place to do so!
