A Good Sea Scout 
at Heart

Gary Hill, owner of Hill’s Boat Service in Newport Beach and Newport Harbor Yacht Club Commodore, received the 2016 Good Sea Scout Award from the Orange County Council, Boy Scouts of America at an awards luncheon at NHYC attended by nearly 200 peers, friends and family. The event raised more than $107,000 for the Newport Sea Base–a new record!–which will enable more youth to be on the water while teaching character and leadership development. The Newport Sea Base delivers high quality educational programs to more than 5,500 youth annually. OCBSA.org

Each year, the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) transforms Laguna Beach into an outdoor painting studio with the West Coast’s most prestigious plein air art event, the Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational. Now, in its 18th year, the event, October 8–16, will showcase the nation’s top plein air landscape painters, who compete for prestigious prizes and participate in a nine-day plein air celebration that includes public paint-outs, painting demonstrations, PleinTalk conversations, educational events and activities, and culminates with the highly-anticipated Collectors Gala on October 14, where attendees get a first look at the original art. Candlelight at 
the Kirwans

Candlelight Concert, Segerstrom Center for the Arts’ annual lavish holiday benefit, was officially launched with an elegant kick-off reception held at the home of Tracy and Roger Kirwan in Newport Coast. The high-powered bash, held at Segerstrom Hall on Friday, December 2, will feature the incredibly talented and four-time Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Carole King, in her exclusive Southern California engagement. The Kirwans, along with Jaynine and David Warner are Candlelight chairs. Both Roger and Jaynine are Center board members. The 13th Annual Art in the Park is coming up on Saturday, October 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Civic Green in Newport Beach. Sponsored by the Newport Beach Arts Foundation, the fine arts and crafts fair will feature more than 100 artists and artisans, whose works will be for sale. Children and adults can get in the spirit of the day by creating their own art project, sponsored by the Chuck Jones Studio. Delicious culinary fare from 24 Carrots also awaits.
