Crystal Cove Lights Up
for the Holidays

Crystal Cove celebrated its 20th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Winter Family Festival in early December featuring a visit from Santa, carolers and fun for the entire family. The only coastal beach holiday tree display in California is quite the honor. The hundreds that attended also enjoyed a seasonal bazaar featuring handcrafted treasures by local residents and artists, as well as old-fashioned holiday decorations. But, the pièce de résistance was the tree lighting at sunset! CrystalCoveAlliance.org

Sleepy Hollow Revisited

The inaugural Haunted Halloween Costume Gala to benefit the new Heroes Hall Veterans Museum at the OC Fair & Event Center drew nearly 400 guests for a night of revelry. Ghouls, witches, warlocks and super heroes enjoyed an array of culinary choices, wines and sweet treats, while dancing the night away to DJ Ken’s musical offerings. Chaired by Daily Pilot columnist Barbara Venezia and Fair Board member Sandra Cervantes, the first-time fundraiser raised more than $30,000 for the museum. OCHeroesHall.org

A Local Sets New World Record
for Pepper Eating

Greg Foster of Irvine knows a thing or two about eating hot peppers. He set a new Guinness World Record at the Arizona Hot Sauce Expo in November for consuming 120 grams of the Carolina Reaper in one minute! The PuckerButt Pepper Company, based in Fort Mill, South Carolina, produces the Carolina Reaper, voted the world’s hottest pepper. The pepper measures 1,569,300 on the Scoville Heat Scale, 300 times hotter than a jalapeno. Greg knows about peppers. He raises them for a living. Julia Foster, his wife, who is capital campaign director at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, admits she can’t eat anything spicy. PuckerButtPepperCompany.com
