Traditional Tree Lighting Ceremony at 
South Coast Plaza

On November 16th, the Segerstrom Family hosted South Coast Plaza 36th annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at Town Center Park, adjacent to The Westin South Coast Plaza. The 96-foot white fir majestic Christmas tree, which arrived from the Mt. Shasta area of Northern California, is always a popular landmark during the holidays with its 100,000 twinkling lights. The tree lighting ceremony drew thousands of attendees for complimentary refreshments, entertainment by Orange County School of the Arts students, a visit from Santa and enchanting snow.

Tree Lighting Ceremony 
at Fashion Island

Fashion Island hosted its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 17th and 18th at its Neiman Marcus–Bloomingdale’s Courtyard, with celebrity co-hosts Mario Lopez and KOST 103.5 FM’s Ellen K. The Young Americans performed “The Magic of Christmas” and Santa Claus made an appearance and brought the tree to life. Going on its 50th year, the 90+foot Christmas tree is always a draw for families during the holidays.

“Lighting of The Bay” 
at Newport Dunes 
Waterfront Resort

Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort’s 27th Annual “Lighting of the Bay” celebration is scheduled for Friday, November 24th from 3–8 p.m. The festivities include performances of holiday favorites by singers from the choirs of Newport Harbor and Corona del Mar High Schools, cookie decorating, holiday crafts and train rides. Santa arrives at dusk by stand-up paddleboard and flips the switch to illuminate the bay with more than 50 electric Christmas trees and holiday decorations. An outdoor screening of Arthur Christmas wraps up the evening along with hot cocoa and cider.

Balboa Bay Resort’s Annual 
Tree Lighting Ceremony

Balboa Bay Resort is hosting its Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, December 3rd from 6–7 p.m. Orange County School of the Arts’ Montage! will entertain with an all-new musical review, “Holiday Hullabaloo,” a high-energy performance featuring Santa, Frosty, Rudolph and friends. The lighting of the gorgeous 20-foot Christmas tree and complimentary treats and beverages complete the festivities. Admission is complimentary with the donation of a new, unwrapped toy, benefiting Toys for Tots. Space is limited. Reservations not required.

Corona del Mar Christmas Walk

The 39th Annual Corona del Mar Christmas Walk, presented by the Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Sunday, December 3rd 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Look for entertainment with 12 bands and high school and community performing groups, restaurant tastings, the popular Newport Beach Fire Department Fireman’s Grill BBQ, Beer & Wine Garden, Vendor Fair, merchant promotions, and an Opportunity Prize drawing with $15,000 in prizes. Kids will enjoy photo ops with Santa, a petting zoo, and more.

Sherman Library and Gardens’ 
“Nights of 1,000 Lights” Celebration

Sherman Library and Gardens’ Fourth Annual “Nights of 1,000 Lights” celebration on Friday, December 8th and Saturday, December 9th from 6–9 p.m. will feature an expanded light tunnel, a conservatory light show, a red sparkle ceiling in the fern grotto, and a Calypso Christmas of pink poinsettias and flamingos in the Tea Garden. Pictures with Santa, a dress-up photo booth and fun arts and crafts await, as well as complimentary hot chocolate, cookies and a make-your-own S’Mores station, no-host bar and tamale vendor. $10 per person for Members; $15 per person for Non-Members.

Balboa Island Holiday Home Tour

The 21st Annual Balboa Island Home Tour, presented by the Balboa Island Improvement Association (BIIA), is scheduled for Sunday, December 10th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nine homeowners are opening their homes to display the unique character of island living, with each home beautifully decorated for the holidays. This event is the main fundraising event for BIIA, an organization dedicated to fostering Balboa’s community growth, beauty, safety and culture.

2017 Newport Beach 
Christmas Boat Parade and Ring of Lights

The 109th Annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade and Ring of Lights home competition, hosted by The Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for December 13th through December 17th at 6:30 p.m. each night. The event is lauded nationally for its beautifully decorated yachts, boats, kayaks, canoes and homes and is estimated to garner more than one million viewers each year.
