British Talent from film, television and music honored
The luxury five star Rosewood Hotel in London drew a star-studded crowd in mid-February for the fourth annual Newport Beach UK Honours, hosted by Newport Beach Film Festival, Visit Newport Beach and Variety magazine.
Held just prior to the British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs, the 2018 Newport Beach UK Honours were presented by Newport Beach Film Festival Co-Founder/CEO Gregg Schwenk and Visit Newport Beach President/CEO Gary Sherwin. BAFTA Los Angeles CEO Chantal Rickards was on hand to congratulate the effort, as well as Paul McGowen of HMV, a UK-based entertainment retailer and promotional partner.
Schwenk explained that the festival has enjoyed a deep connection with the UK Film and Creative industries for its 19 years and further revealed the Visit Newport Beach connection.
“We partnered with Visit Newport Beach to elevate the relationship between the city, festival and UK industry by honoring talent via this celebration called the Newport Beach UK Honours,” he said.

In collaboration with the Newport Beach Film Festival, Variety, for the second year running, presented its 10 Brits to Watch, with talents recognized from TV series stars, rock bands and R&B singers to Netflix showrunners, horror experts and Zambian-born arthouse directors. The entertainment industry’s bible, Variety’s Vice President/Executive Editor Steven Gaydos introduced the artists.
The 10 Brits to Watch included actor Edward Holcroft, actress Eileen O’Higgins, director Rungano Nyoni, actress Sophie Skelton, actress Anya Taylor-Joy, musicians Dancing on Tables, actress Annes Elwy, director Jonathan Entwistle, singer Jorja Smith, and actress Suki Waterhouse.
