Local garden tours announced
With spring upon us, I gladly welcome crisp green foliage, colorful blooms and pristine gardens. During late April and May, here are a few of my favorite gardening tours.
South Coast Plaza’s Spring Garden Show – This will be the 29th Annual Southern California Spring Garden Show: At Home in the Garden, from April 26-29. The show features 50 vendors and 60 seminars. On the first floor, 10 garden vignettes are created by professional design firms. They showcase the latest in lighting, home decor and fashion-forward patio designs. Then, on the second floor, various vendors line the walkways. There are hard-to-find plants, succulents, garden art, flowers and all kinds of gardening items and informative seminars. The best part–no admission fee and free parking! SouthCoastPlaza.com/GardenShow
A Weekend of Orange County Garden Tours – The Mary Lou Heard Foundation will feature its annual Memorial Garden Tours throughout Orange County May 5–6. Over 40 magnificent self-guided tours are offered, from Long Beach to San Clemente. Some gardens are open on Saturday, others Sunday and some both days. These are real gardens by real people! The brochure has a story about each garden, so we plan weeks ahead. The donations they receive are raised for the Sheepfold, a shelter for women in crisis and their children. Visit TheSheepFold.org to find out more about their wonderful services. HeardsGardenTour.com
Home and Garden Tour in Newport – The Newport Harbor Educational Foundation (benefiting Newport Harbor High School) is creating a wonderful event on May 17. Guests will tour a spectacular collection of six homes and beautifully appointed gardens. There is a morning reception at Balboa Bay Resort, lunch and boutique at the Newport Theatre Arts Center and an afternoon reception at Barclay Butera Interiors.
