The Men's Issue

This issue is packed with good stories and fun offerings for and about men. Father’s Day is June 17th and is the perfect time to highlight a fabulous father. It was easy for me to select Daniele Struppa, president of Chapman University, as a father, first and foremost. He is so proud of his two daughters, 13-year-old Arianna and 11-year-old Athena, and credits his wife Lisa as a wonderful wife and mother. It is a heartwarming story.

Twin brothers Anthony and Sebastian Musco (Sebastian is our own S. Paul Musco) are featured in a story about their battle with heart disease and how both of them were given a “second life” late in life (they are 92 years old!). Thanks to American Heart Association research carried out by Edwards Lifesciences, the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement was inserted in their hearts. It is much less invasive than open-heart surgery, and both men are doing extremely well.

A men’s trip to Iowa is featured for all you baseball lovers out there. The Field of Dreams tourist attraction where the movie was filmed is a hot item, and there are major and minor league parks all over the state to visit. The Manchester Whitewater Park for whitewater enthusiasts is great fun, and Backbone State Park offers campsites with 21 miles of trails for hiking, a lake, cabins, rock climbing for climbers and rappellers (don’t miss the “Devil’s Backbone!), trout fishing, and more.

Lastly, we featured three restaurants with “hot” bars for gentlemen to frequent – right here in Newport Beach! Check out SideDoor, Stag Bar + Kitchen and Fig & Olive for an array of signature cocktails, hard-to-find whiskeys and local craft beers. Plus, the modern and classic pub fare is worth the visit!

However you enjoy Father’s Day, whether as a father yourself or celebrating an amazing father or mentor in your life, make it memorable!

Until next time,
