Rock n’ Roll Icon Celebrates The Lido Theater Anniversary

Rock n’ Roll Hall of Famer Bill Medley was part of a recent two-event celebration of The Lido Theater’s 80th anniversary. “A Simple Evening with Bill Medley” was a benefit concert for Lupus International, in honor of his late Righteous Brothers partner Bobby Hatfield, whose wife Linda lost her battle with lupus in 2010. The second anniversary tribute, a partnership with Newport Beach Film Festival, was a showing of the Oscar-nominated “Jezebel,” the film that opened the Lido Theater in 1938.

Laguna Dance Festival’s 14th Season Debuts

Laguna Dance Festival will bring a variety of stunning dance performances to Laguna Playhouse October 4 -7. October 4 is a free dance experience dubbed “Backstage with Complexions” and offers the opportunity to observe the rehearsal process and speak with performers. October 5 will showcase Complexions Contemporary Ballet’s dance tribute to the late rock icon David Bowie in “StarDust,” and October 6 and 7 will feature current and future stars in “Stars of Dance.”

Local Retailer Has Heart To Serve

Crystal Rose Alford, owner of Crystal Rose Island Therapy on Balboa Island, has more than fashions, accessories and custom-made soaps on her mind. She has always had a heart to serve and her work with disaster relief is proof of her commitment. She has been deployed to many disaster areas, including Houston’s Hurricane Harvey and the recent Thomas fires in California. She says on top of removing mud and ash and trying to salvage people’s treasures, she is a chaplain, offering people empathy and compassion.

“Art in the Park” Celebrates 15 Years

The Newport Beach Arts Foundation’s 15th annual “Art in the Park” will be held on the Civic Green at Newport Beach Civic Center on Saturday, October 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 100 Southern California artists and artisans will be featured. Food, music and arts activities for children will be available. It is free to the public with free parking.
